Fans will soon be treated to James Mangold’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. Now, excitingly enough, it’s been revealed that James Mangold will tackle the Star Wars franchise next.
It was announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023, via THR, that Mangold has been tapped to direct a stand-alone Star Wars film. Interestingly, however, this film will be set during a completely different time period. It’s been revealed that this installment will actually take place 25,000 years before the events of the Original Trilogy.
Mangold himself has described the film as a “Biblical epic.” Obviously fans of the franchise are excited to see what that entails. Especially because it’s also been revealed that the film will show the origins of the Force.
As shared by Mangold:
“When I first started talking to Kathy about doing one of these pictures, what occurred to me was thinking about what kind of genre of movie within Star Wars I wanted to do,” he said. “And I thought about a Biblical epic, like a Ten Commandments, about the dawning of the Force. Where did the Force come from, when did we discover it, when did we learn how to use it?”
Hopefully we’ll have more details on that front soon. It’s worth noting that the old Expanded Universe, now known as Star Wars Legends, explored some of that territory. But this will be the first time this era has been explored in live-action with an official canon film installment. Fans are no doubt going to be curious what this means for the franchise going forward.
As always, stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on Star Wars and this highly-anticipated prequel film coming from James Mangold as we have them. There are plenty of new Star Wars film and television projects in the works. As such, there’s no doubt something for everyone.
