A variety of new Star Wars films have just been announced. The upcoming stand-alone films will tackle a variety of different time periods across the franchise. As for one particular film being directed by Dave Filoni, however, it looks like it will conclude the current crop of Star Wars shows on Disney Plus.
The aforementioned shows includes the likes of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and the upcoming series Ahsoka. Fans are already aware that these shows are intended to be heavily tied into one another. Now we know why – they will lead into a climactic feature film event.
The news, shared at Star Wars Celebration 2023 via THR, promises an exciting conclusion to the beloved Disney Plus projects. Furthermore, with Dave Filoni at the helm, Star Wars fans are no doubt excited to see him tackle his own feature film set in the iconic galaxy.
Other details at this moment are scarce. Of course, given that plot lines for The Mandalorian and Ahsoka are still ongoing, that may be why. It could take some time before this film project gets off the ground. Especially as there’s no timeline for a release date as of this writing. But as The Mandalorian and Ahsoka continue – we’ll only get closer to this climactic story event.
The storylines set in this time period so far have revolved around the rise of the New Republic and growing remnants of the Empire. It’s possible that Grand Admiral Thrawn, a villain from Star Wars: Rebels who originated in the non-canon Star Wars Legends timelines, could be introduced as a primary antagonist for this film. We’ll see him introduced for the first time via live-action in the upcoming Ahsoka series.
Fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Star Wars updates as we have them. For now, it looks like we’ll have plenty of new film and television projects worth looking forward to.
