The Spider-Man film franchise has branched off into several new directions in recent years. Many of these new Spider-Man films are spin-offs focusing on the titular character’s villains. Now it looks like the next Spider-Man spin-off movie will be “unexpectedly dark” according to its star.
Actor Russell Crowe, who plays a role in the upcoming Spider-Man spin-off Kraven the Hunter, revealed as much while speaking to Comic Book Resources about the highly-anticipated blockbuster. Many fans have been eager to see the titular villain in live-action for years. As such, seeing Kraven get his own movie is something quite special. Now it’s even more exciting to know that it will retain the dark nature of its source material.
Here’s what Russell Crowe had to share about the “unexpectedly dark world” that the Spider-Man spin-off film takes place in:
“I haven’t seen it. I haven’t seen it, but I know that we’re going through another round of shooting soon. I’ve got a scene to do in a couple of weeks. I’ve talked to J.C. Chandor, the director. He’s really excited about what he’s got in front of him and really excited about the way people will receive it. I think I can sort of pass on that one of the things he said that it’s just an unexpectedly dark world.”
Of course, fans of the character wouldn’t expect much else from a Kraven the Hunter film. But we’ve certainly seen Sony take creative liberties with their characters in the past. As such, this should be a reassuring statement that Kraven the Hunter will be hitting at least some of the right notes with fans of the character.
J.C. Chandor directed the upcoming film from a screenplay by Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Richard Wenk. The film will be produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach.
The cast for the new film includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ariana DeBose, Fred Hechinger, Christopher Abbott, Alessandro Nivola, and Russell Crowe.
Audiences will be able to see Kraven the Hunter when it hits theaters on October 6, 2023. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates on the highly-anticipated film as we have them.
