Fans were already surprised with the first trailer for Ari Aster’s upcoming film Beau is Afraid. The new film, starring Joaquin Phoenix, looks like a wild ride that’s completely unlike anything Aster or Phoenix has done before. Now the new trailer for Beau is Afraid confirms just that.
As you can see below, the new footage begins with a de-aged version of Joaquin Phoenix’s character. It’s only the beginning of this trailer, however, that continues to illustrate just how bizarre and surreal this film is willing to get. Of course, while audiences might be divisive as they have with Aster’s past works, this certainly looks like it’ll have something for everyone.
Fortunately, fans only have until later this month before Beau is Afraid hits theaters. But this new trailer should certainly hold any overly-anxious fans over. The details for the film have been quite exciting so far. Here’s what we know about the film’s plot:
“A paranoid man embarks on an epic odyssey to get home to his mother in this bold and ingeniously depraved new film from writer/director Ari Aster.”
Here’s the new trailer for Beau is Afraid:
It’s a simple setup, though given what we’ve seen so far, it’s clear that Beau is Afraid will be anything but. Of course, we’ll just have to wait until the film hits theaters in April to know for sure.
The upcoming surrealist comedy horror film was both written and directed by Ari Aster.
The cast, led by Joaquin Phoenix, includes Nathan Lane, Amy Ryan, Stephen Mckinley Henderson, Hayley Squires, Denis Ménochet, Kylie Rogers, Armen Nahapetian, Parker Posey, and Patti LuPone.
