Fans were ecstatic when it was announced that Insidious 5, the next film in the belovedĀ horror franchise, would finally be happening. Now the upcoming sequel has received an official title – Insidious: The Red Door.
The new title was shared via Collider, and as they’ve noted, it’s rather appropriate. Fans of the franchise are quite familiar with red doors. After all, they’ve appeared more than a few times throughout the series. Especially the first two films where red doors lead to the main antagonists’ respective lairs.
Naturally, this lends the upcoming installment a rather ominous quality. And, fittingly enough, most plot details are still being kept under wraps. Though we do know that the film features the return of the Lambert family. The film actually takes place ten years after Insidious: Chapter 2 and follows Patrick Wilson’s Josh Lambert as he takes Ty Simpkins’ Dalton to college. Though his childhood demons appear to have followed him there.
It’s an exciting setup for a sequel, and after several films which focused on Lin Shaye’s Elise character, it should be a refreshing change of pace. We’ll just have to see what kind of terror is lurking behind the red door this time around.
Insidious: The Red Door was directed by star Patrick Wilson, who also returned to act in the film. The screenplay was written by Scott Teems based on an original story by Leigh Whannell.
Original Insidious stars Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne and Ty Simpkins all return alongside newcomers Sinclair Daniel, Peter Dager, and Hiam Abbass.
The project will be produced by Jason Blum, James Wan, Leigh Whannell, and Oren Peli.
Insidious: The Red Door is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on July 7, 2023. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on this highly-anticipated fifth installment in the Insidious film franchise as we have them.
