Fans are always eager for another iteration for The X-Files. Especially considering the show recently concluded with two new seasons five years ago as part of a revival. Now, however, it looks like we could be getting a reboot as a completely new X-Files series with a diverse cast.
This news comes via On the Coast With Gloria Macarenko, where The X-Files creator Chris Carter teased the new incarnation. Specifically, he’s been speaking with Ryan Coogler about developing this new take on the beloved sci-fi horror franchise.
Here’s what Carter had to share about the project and his meetings with Coogler:
“I just spoke to a young man… Ryan Coogler… who is going to remount The X-Files with a diverse cast. So he’s got his work cut out for him, because we covered so much territory.”
This is quite the announcement as it comes out of nowhere. The latest update regarding the franchise was the animated comedy series titled The X-Files: Albuquerque which was announced in 2020. Of course, given the time since then, it’s unknown if the animated series is still in development. But the promise of a new iteration from Ryan Coogler – known for having directed Black Panther – is certainly a huge surprise for fans of the franchise. As such, we’ll have to hope additional updates are released soon.
In addition to Black Panther and its sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Coogler is also known for having directed the first Creed film. He’s certainly made his name known around Hollywood and he’d be the perfect choice to bring The X-Files to an all-new generation. As Carter himself has shared, however, he’ll still have “his work cut out for him.” Especially given how much the original franchise has already explored.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the X-Files franchise, this upcoming reboot with a diverse cast, and the animated series The X-Files: Albuquerque as we have them.
