Writers Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson were previously attached to a Star Wars upcoming project that would be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Now, however, it looks like the two writers will be replaced by Steven Knight for the undisclosed Star Wars film.
This news was shared by Variety where they noted both Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson were both removed from the project. As such, it’s a surprising update as Lucasfilm continues to plan out their upcoming slate of Star Wars projects. The franchise has been relegated to Disney Plus shows and specials for the last few years, so there are plenty of fans eager to see what’s happening on the theatrical side of things.
Here’s what Variety had to add on that front:
“The movie is widely expected to be among Lucasfilm’s first ‘Star Wars‘ films since 2019’s ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.’ More information about the movie, including a possible title, is expected to be announced at the Star Wars Celebration in London in April.”
It certainly seems as though this year’s Star Wars Celebration would be our best bet for additional information. Lucasfilm tends to announce their upcoming projects and other details at such events. For the time being, however, Lucasfilm did not deliver a comment regarding the removal of Damon Lindelof & Justin Britt-Gibson. Nor did they have anything to share about Steven Knight and his involvement on the upcoming Star Wars film.
Steven Knight’s past work includes the crime dramas Dirty Pretty Things, Eastern Promises, and the drama comedy film The Hundred-Foot Journey. He’s also recognized for having created the television series Peaky Blinders, which he is also attached to as an executive producer.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Star Wars updates as we have them. We should have other details regarding the next theatrical films in the Star Wars franchise coming up very soon.
