Linda Blair shocked audiences with her performance as Regan MacNeil in the classic horror film The Exorcist. Now it looks like Linda Blair is said to reprise her role for David Gordon Green’s upcoming sequel.
As shared via Above The Line, “Linda Blair will reprise her role as Regan MacNeil.” This would mark her first time portraying the character since Exorcist II: The Heretic was released in 1977.
Their report adds that “Blair was only on set for a few days, so she’s not in the film all that much.” Of course, they also note that fans will no doubt still be excited by the announcement. It’s also worth noting that this is only the first film in a whole trilogy: perhaps Blair could have a larger role later on?
Here’s what a spokesperson for Blumhouse had to share:
“Linda Blair served as an advisor on the upcoming Exorcist film,” they stated, without confirming whether or not Blair actually appears in the film. In any case, the possibility of seeing her appear back alongside Ellen Burstyn is an incredible opportunity. Though both Regan MacNeil and her mother appeared as characters in the short-lived Exorcist television series, they were recast, and thus this would mark a true return to form for the franchise.
David Gordon Green directed the film from a screenplay he penned alongside Peter Sattler. The story was created by Scott Teems, Danny McBride, and Green. Jason Blum produces the film via Blumhouse. David Robinson and James Robinson produce via Morgan Creek. Green, McBride, and Couper Samuelson are attached as executive producers. Ryan Turek is overseeing the project for Blumhouse.
The impressive cast also includes Leslie Odom Jr., Ann Dowd, Lidya Jewett, Jennifer Nettles, Olivia Marcum, Raphael Sbarge, and Okwui Okpokwasili.
The first installment of David Gordon Green’s The Exorcist trilogy is set to be released on October 13, 2023. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the highly-anticipated trilogy as we have them.
