The 2022 horror film Smile was a major hit for Paramount. As such, it isn’t surprising to see the the movie’s writer and director – Parker Finn – has just signed a first-look deal with Paramount. Additionally, it looks like Smile 2 is being eyed by the studio as a result.
This news was shared via THR. They couldn’t share much about the first-look deal – but they did have a few exciting details for fans of Smile. It looks like Parker Finn is expected to have their hand in quite a few horror film projects. Naturally, Smile 2 could be one of them.
Here’s what was stated:
“Lips are sealed as far as deal details go, but Parker is expected to write, produce and direct features in the horror genre. The studio would love a Smile sequel but it’s not clear what Finn’s next movie will be.”
Paramount president and CEO Brian Robbins shared the following statement:
“Smile’s breakthrough success is a testament to Parker’s unique and fresh filmmaking, and we are thrilled that he will make Paramount his home,” Robbins stated.
Paramount’s motion picture group co-presidents Michael Ireland and Daria Cercek added:
“Parker knows how to keep people on the edge of their seat and we’re happy that we get to keep scaring audiences together.”
It’s certainly an exciting time for horror film fans and any audience members that want more content like Smile. 2022 proved to be a very profitable year at the box office for horror films. As such, we’ll have to see what the next few years have in store.
Finn Parker both wrote and directed Smile. The cast of the film includes Sosie Bacon, Jesse T Usher, Kal Penn, Rob Morgan, Kyle Gallner, and Caitlin Stasey.
