The all-new sequel to DC’s Shazam! has finally hit theaters. Now, as per usual, the all-new post-credits scenes for Shazam! Fury of the Gods have been revealed. And they set up some exciting possibilities for the live-action superhero franchise.
Of course, we all know that the DC brand is being restructured around the all-new DC Universe (aka DCU). This certainly puts the future of the Shazam! film franchise in an unclear light. Though the inclusion of these post-credits scenes are still an interesting approach for the newly-released film.
First, the end of the film itself includes a happy conclusion for our characters. Particularly when the Daughters of Atlas are saved and Shazam himself is resurrected. Though the first post-credits scene takes an interesting turn for the film.
Shazam is approached by Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland) and John Economos (Steve Agee) from The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker. The two ask Shazam if he’d be willing to join the “Justice-” before being cut off by Shazam. He believes they’re asking him to join the Justice League so he immediately accepts. He then sees they’re referring to the Justice Society and he offers several new names for their superhero group. This includes “Avengers Society” before Harcourt and Economos depart. Billy Batson, aka Shazam, continues to remain on his own.
The next post-credits scene is a throwback to the one featured at the end of the original Shazam! film. The scene features Dr. Sivana (Mark Strong) once again sitting in his prison cell. Similarly, he’s greeted by the evil caterpillar Mister Mind, and the caterpillar promises yet another evil plan is in the works. Though the creature soon leaves which once again forces Dr. Sivana to wait before he can have any sort of evil comeback.
It’s still unknown just how the current run of DCEU films will connect with the upcoming DCU label. Though Shazam! Fury of the Gods certainly didn’t stop trying to tease other potential sequels and appearances. Perhaps we’ll be surprised with an announcement in the near future.
David F. Sandberg directed Shazam! Fury of the Gods. The screenplay for the film was penned by Henry Gayden and Chris Morgan.
The cast for the film includes Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Rachel Zegler, Adam Brody, Ross Butler, Meagan Good, Lucy Liu, Djimon Hounsou, and Helen Mirren.
