The $5 million indie thriller Fall has grossed nearly $22 million. Now, with the film having a successful run internationally on Netflix’s streaming service, it looks like a Fall sequel is now in the works.
As shared via Deadline, “British producer Tea Shop Productions and director Scott Mann are discussing ideas for a second movie.” Apparently the tremendous success of the film on Netflix for international territories has made a sequel seem like a no-brainer.
It’s said that this sequel “will look to unsettle audiences with another terrifying tale set at a great height.” Naturally, given the early status of the sequel, any other plot details are unavailable. But it looks like this will be another film for anyone with a fear of heights to watch out for.
Tea Shop co-founder James Harris has discussed the success of the film on Netflix:
“We were pleasantly surprised by how everybody has such a visceral reaction to it,” he said. “It is one of those movies where word of mouth really helps.”
Other Tea Shop co-founder Mark Lane added the following:
“It’s an easy thing for people to pick up on a streamer. You can see the concept in the poster image and we’re finding that if people try it, they are getting hooked instantly.”
Harris continued:
“You can make a good movie but unless you present companies with a way to market it, a lot of the time they mess it up. It was quite important for us to say, ‘Shove it,’ to people and control how to do the marketing.”
He then added the following regarding their plans for the sequel:
“We’ve got a couple of ideas we’re kicking around … We don’t want to make something that feels like a copycat or less than the first one.”
It’s been stated that they plan to “get moving” on the sequel later this year. As such, it shouldn’t be much longer before we have more news regarding their plans.
The first Fall film stars Grace Caroline Currey and Virginia Gardner. The two play a pair of friends who end up stuck at the top of a 2,000 foot tall radio tower in the desert.
While the film can be streamed on Netflix for international users, Fall is otherwise available for United States audiences to view via Starz.
