Sony has several projects in the works featuring different villains and characters of the Spider-Man universe. One such film is the upcoming El Muerto which will star Bad Bunny aka Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio as the titular character. And, excitingly enough, he could soon be joined by Ana de Armas as part of the El Muerto cast.
Ana de Armas has become a major household name in just the last few years. Her acting career initially began in Cuba, before she began working on the Spanish television series El Internado, and soon enough she broke into English-speaking roles for several major Hollywood productions. These projects include Knock Knock, War Dogs, Blade Runner 2049, and Knives Out. She also recently appeared as Marilyn Monroe in Netflix’s Blonde.
Now, according to our sources, Ana de Armas is being eyed by Sony to appear in El Muerto. It’s currently unknown what her role in the project will be but she’s said to be the female lead. As such, the project would be another major addition to her growing filmography. In fact, El Muerto would be her first role in a superhero film.
The plot details for El Muerto are currently under wraps. Though the comic book character is a Mexican wrestler with superpowers that are passed down from generation to generation. It’s expected that he’ll retain these traits in the upcoming film. Though it’s unclear how closely connected the project will be to Sony’s other upcoming films such as Kraven the Hunter and Madame Web. The project will also be the first Marvel adaptation to be led by a Latino character.
Jonás Cuarón is the attached director to the film while Garreth Dunnet-Alcocer wrote the screenplay.
