We’ve seen Netflix lose plenty of movies and shows that have both been unreleased or longtime hits on the digital platform. Now it looks like Netflix is losing yet another one of its biggest shows.
On the bright side, the series will be available for fans to watch elsewhere. Though it’s disappointing to see that Netflix will have to give up one of its shows that has been a mainstay on the service for almost a decade. And especially at a time when Netflix has been dealing with numerous competitors.
Of course, that’s just the name of the game these days. There is one interesting outcome for this situation, however, which could actually lead this series to being seen by more people as a result.
It’s just been revealed that the Netflix series New Girl will be leaving the service for not just one – but two – completely different streaming services. As shared by Variety, the series is being taken off Netflix due to a new licensing agreement. Now, as a result of the new deal, it will be featured on two separate streaming services under an agreement made by Disney and NBCUniversal.
Here’s what they shared:
“‘New Girl‘ will be available on Hulu and Peacock beginning April 17, 2023. Under a shared agreement between Disney and NBCUniversal, Peacock and Hulu will share streaming rights to all seven season of the show, comprising 146 episodes in total.”
This will no doubt be disappointing news for fans that used Netflix to watch their favorite episodes of New Girl. For fans that happen to use Peacock and Hulu, however, it looks like they’ll be in for quite the binge watch. Especially with all seven seasons of the show being available on either streaming platform.
As mentioned, now that there are so many streaming services competing with one another, it isn’t exactly surprising to see something taken off Netflix. But hopefully we’ll still continue to see license agreements between distributors. After all, the more content that’s shared between services, the better it is for us fans and subscribers.
New Girl stars Zooey Deschanel in addition to Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, Lamorne Morris, and Hannah Simone.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional streaming service updates as we have them. For now, it looks like fans will be able to view New Girl via Hulu and Peacock beginning April 17, 2023. For those users exclusive to Netflix – now’s the time to get your daily viewing in before it’s gone.
