Jamie Lee Curtis wowed audiences with her supporting role in Everything Everywhere All at Once. Now, as one might imagine, it’s been announced that Jamie Lee Curtis has won the award for Best Supporting Actress at the 2023 Oscars.
Her role in the film, tax inspector Deirdre Beaubeirdre, is a hilarious part that – much like most other characters in the film – is reimagined through different alternate universes. Curtis does an amazing job at keeping up with the erratic structure and pacing of the film. She delivers a variety of different takes on her character and it’s no wonder why she won the award.
Fascinatingly enough, however, this is also the first Oscar nomination for Jamie Lee Curtis. Her career spans several decades with such hits as Halloween, Trading Places, and True Lies. As such, it’s quite exciting to see that she has won the award as a result.
It’s also worth noting that Jamie Lee Curtis has already earned several other nominations and awards for her part in the film. In fact, she won the Screen Actors Guild award for best supporting actress and received a nomination from the Golden Globes. Now she declares that her win at the Oscars is one for the “hundreds of people” that helped her reach this moment in time.
She further thanked “all of the people who have supported the genre movies I have made all these years, the hundreds and thousands of people: we just won an Oscar! Together!”
It was quite a moment as Jamie Lee Curtis continued to speak of her late parents, Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis, and the nominations they had also received from the Oscars. Though her final statement truly illustrated the happiness and shock she felt at this time:
“I just won an Oscar!”
