The Scream film franchise is known for having never featured a post-credits scene in any of its previous five outings. Scream VI changed this pattern with a very interesting post-credits scene.
In fact, many fans may have missed the moment because of this. They may have assumed that Scream VI would follow its predecessors and continue to ignore the ongoing trends boosted by the likes of Marvel and DC. But this is not the case.
With that said, Scream VI offers a post-credits scene that isn’t exactly what you’d expect. It doesn’t offer any kind of tease for a potential sequel. Rather, it includes a humorous gag that’s actually quite creative for such a moment. Fans would definitely find it worth sitting through the credits for.
Those who didn’t however, we’ll break down the moment below. As such, be warned, there are spoilers ahead:
The post-credits scene is actually incredibly short. It consists of a single line of dialogue delivered by Jasmin Savoy Brown’s character Mindy Meeks-Martin. She looks at the camera and gives the following line:
“Not every movie needs a post-credits scene.”
It appears to have been shot during an earlier scene in the film. One where Mindy explains the rules for surviving their current situation. As such, it’s a humorous addition to see that she would have included this “suggestion” as well.
Scream VI was directed by 2022 Scream directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence. James Vanderbilt & Guy Busick also returned to write the screenplay. Scream creator Kevin Williamson executive produced alongside Radio Silence member Chad Villella. Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre of Spyglass were also attached as executive producers.
The ensemble cast for the film includes Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Jenna Ortega, and Dermot Mulroney. Additionally, Samara Weaving, Tony Revolori, Jack Champion, Liana Liberato, Devyn Nekoda, Josh Segarra, and Henry Czerny also appear in the film. Courteney Cox reprises her role as Gale Weathers while Hayden Panettiere returns as Kirby Reed for the first time since Scream 4.
