Fans have waited decades for Beetlejuice 2 to come to fruition. Now it looks like it may finally happen. In fact, it’s being reported that Wednesday and Scream star Jenna Ortega has entered talks to join the cast of Beetlejuice 2.
As shared via Deadline, not only is Jenna Ortega in talks for the sequel, but “Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder are expected to reprise their roles with Burton directing.” This is huge news for fans that never thought a Beetlejuice sequel would get off the ground. Additionally, it looks like production on the highly-anticipated project is set to happen in the near future.
Here’s what they shared:
“Production is hoping for a late May or early June shoot in London, but budget has not been set, resulting in a back and forth. If a deal is made, sources say Ortega would play the daughter of Lydia, the character played by Winona Ryder in the original.”
Hopefully this means we’ll have further news soon. If negotiations regarding the budget are finished soon – we could see the film begin production as early as this summer. It seems that after decades of no progress – Beetlejuice 2 is finally happening. Hopefully we’ll have more details soon.
The original film was released in 1988 and earned $80 million at the box office with a $15 million budget. Although a sequel never came to fruition – it was followed by an animated series which gained a cult following over the years. It’ll certainly be interesting to see what kind of take this sequel has in mind – especially with Jenna Ortega in talks to join Beetlejuice 2. Plot details will likely be released in the near future so we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
