The Evil Dead franchise will soon be making its way back to theaters with Evil Dead Rise. Though the new film introduces a new set of characters to the franchise, many fans might be wondering if Bruce Campbell will ever return as Ash. Excitingly enough, it turns out he just might – with word saying that an animated Evil Dead series featuring Bruce Campbell as Ash is in the works.
Now, as shared via Bloody-Disgusting, Bruce Campbell has delivered an update on that front. Of course, with the focus at the time being Evil Dead Rise, it’s unknown just how soon we might be seeing this animated project. But it’s certainly exciting to know that there are developments going on behind-the-scenes.
Here’s what Bruce Campbell was about to share regarding the prospect of an animated Evil Dead series:
“All I can say is we’re actively pursuing it. Sam’s a busy guy. He had a big hit movie, so he’s got a lot on his plate, but he and his brother are actively shaping out the world. It’s one thing to get an animator and say, ‘Hey, animate this!’ You’ve got to know what you’re going to animate. I look forward to it, because my voice hasn’t aged as much as I have.”
It looks like progress on the Evil Dead animated series is moving ahead slowly but surely. It all depends on how the schedules for everyone involved line up. But knowing that they’re “actively shaping out the world,” that does promise some exciting things for the franchise.
Fans know that Ash vs Evil Dead ended the story for Bruce Campbell’s Ash Williams on a massive cliffhanger. The character found himself in the post-apocalyptic future with nothing but a high-tech Oldsmobile and female android waiting for him. Hopefully this potential animated series will take place where that series left off.
As always, stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on the Evil Dead multimedia franchise as we have them. For now, at least fans will have the upcoming film Evil Dead Rise to tide them over.
