Fans are eager to know more about Sony’s upcoming film Madame Web. It’s clear that the film will involve the Spider-Man Multiverse – but to what extent? What characters could we expect to see? According to a new report, it looks like Spider-Woman could be one of them, with Sydney Sweeney reportedly attached to the role.
We’ve already known that Sydney Sweeney would be appearing in the upcoming film. Now as shared on The Hot Mic, industry insider Jeff Sneider shared some interesting potential details regarding her role. And they are details that comic book fans will recognize.
Specifically, he claims that she will be playing “the second” Spider-Woman, otherwise known as Julia Carpenter to fans. This would certainly match up with past reports and the Multiverse setup of the project. Though we could expect to see multiple variants of Spider-Woman in the film. Additionally, Jeff Sneider made some additional comments about Spider-Woman’s future.
Particularly, he questioned where Olivia Wilde could fit into the overall equation. It’s been rumored that Wilde has been attached to a Spider-Woman solo film for quite some time. Though this version would involve Jessica Drew with some rumors even suggesting that it’ll connect to the MCU. Unfortunately it’s unknown if this project could still be on the table – especially with Madame Web shaking things up.
Madame Web is directed by S.J. Clarkson from a screenplay by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. Kerem Sanga wrote an earlier draft of the script.
The surprisingly massive cast of Madame Web includes Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Emma Roberts, Adam Scott, and Tahar Rahim.
Fans will be able to see Madame Web when it hits theaters on February 16, 2024. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates on the highly-anticipated film as we have them. Hopefully we’ll have an official confirmation soon regarding whether or not Sydney Sweeney is actually playing Spider-Woman in the film.
