The official announcement that a new Hellboy movie was in the works seemingly came out of nowhere. Now, just as suddenly, it looks like progress is moving ahead at a lightning pace on the new project. It’s just been revealed that actor Jack Kesy will play the new Hellboy for Hellboy: The Crooked Man.
This information comes via Empire, where they noted Kesy will take over from past Hellboy actors Ron Perlman and David Harbour. Other than being a reboot, they note that this iteration of Hellboy “will reportedly be a younger take on the character than has been portrayed before.”
Additionally, co-President Jonathan Yunger of production company Millennium Media shared the following statement:
“Jack Kesy is a dynamic actor who has the ability to morph into his roles. His talent and stature are perfect for this younger Hellboy. I was very impressed with him while working together on The Outpost.”
Actor Jack Kesy is known for having played in such projects as 12 Strong, Baywatch, and a brief role in the movie Deadpool 2. He also appeared in television shows including The Strain and Claws. As such, it’ll be interesting to see what Jack Kesy has to offer Hellboy: The Crooked Man as a young Hellboy.
Brian Taylor will direct Hellboy: The Crooked Man from a screenplay penned by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola alongside comics collaborator Christopher Golden. The storyline of the new film is based upon the Hellboy: The Crooked Man comic book miniseries of the same name.
A release date for the film has yet to be confirmed. However, the project is set to shoot this year in Bulgaria.
