The Lord of the Rings multimedia franchise has most recently been adapted for television with the live-action series The Rings of Power. Now, however, it looks like The Lord of the Rings filmmaker Peter Jackson could be returning to the franchise. Especially now that Warner Bros is busy with developing a new batch of Lord of the Rings movie projects.
As shared via Deadline, Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav made the big reveal. Of course, many fans are eager to know what original director Peter Jackson has to say about this. Especially given his lack of involvement with Amazon’s series The Rings of Power. As it turns out, however, Jackson has been kept “in the loop” with the projects.
Additionally, Jackson’s writing partners Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens have also been informed about the developments. Of course, Deadline notes there’s “nothing definitive,” but this is still exciting news for fans of the franchise. And, of course, those fans who appreciate what Jackson had to offer Tolkien’s iconic world.
Here’s what the trio shared in a statement:
“Warner Brothers and Embracer have kept us in the loop every step of the way,” the Oscar-winning trio said. “We look forward to speaking with them further to hear their vision for the franchise moving forward.”
Hopefully we’ll have more details soon. It looks like these film projects are in very early stages – so it’s possible that it’ll be quite some time before we hear anything. Especially with Amazon’s The Rings of Power being the main focus of the property for now. Of course, there are plenty of unexplored stories in Tolkien’s fantasy world that can be used to differentiate these new films from what’s come before. As such, we’ll have to see what happens. At least we know Peter Jackson and his team have been kept in the loop regarding the future for Lord of the Rings.
