The first season for House of the Dragon was a hit with Game of Thrones fans. HBO has since confirmed that the series will receive a second season. Now, according to HBO and HBO Max content CEO Casey Bloys, fans should expect House of the Dragon Season 2 to be released during the summer of 2024.
As shared by Variety, Bloys confirmed that 2024 “is a good guess” regarding the release of House of the Dragon Season 2. Of course, that isn’t exactly a specific release date announcement. Though Bloys did give an additional tease regarding the second season’s release date.
They note that Bloys said the show probably won’t be eligible for the 2024 Emmy season. One can then deduce that, given the eligibility period ends on May 31, 2024, the series could return around summer 2024. This would certainly give fans something to look forward to at that time.
He also discussed whether or not we could expect multiple Game of Thrones projects to be in the works at the same time. After all, the network has been adamant about expanding the franchise. Here’s what Bloys had to share:
“My philosophy is a good script is number one priority,” he says. “I am not doing it based on wanting to have one a year, two a year. I want to do it based on the scripts that we’re excited about.”
Bloys continued to discuss the development process in working on these projects.
“Remember to get ‘House of the Dragon’ following up from ‘Game of Thrones,’ we developed a lot of shows, shot a pilot, developed a bunch of scripts and we got ‘House of the Dragon,’” Bloys notes. “To do that again is going to take the same amount of effort. You have to develop a lot of things, try things. You never know what’s going to work. So we’re currently doing that. I’m not opposed to any number of shows. There’s probably a natural limit to how many fans want, but I’m open to any as long as we feel really good about the scripts and the prospects for a series.”
Furthermore, he adds that it’s important that each project is important to those involved.
“It takes a while to get one that hits the mark,” he adds. “I know George [R.R. Martin] feels the same way. You want to do one that everybody’s really proud of and excited about.”
As such, we’ll have to see where the Game of Thrones franchise goes from here. Luckily, fans can assume that the second season for House of the Dragon will be released during summer 2024 at the earliest. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional news as we have it.
