The third installment of the Ant-Man franchise has finally hit theaters. Of course, many fans are eager to know how this new installment sets up the rest of Marvel’s Phase 5. Many of these details can be found in the film’s ending – so read on below to see the conclusion of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania explained.
Fans have already been introduced to a variant of Kang the Conqueror – named He Who Remains – in the Disney Plus series Loki. As mentioned, however, this was a variant – which means there are many other versions of Kang we’ll get to meet throughout Phase 5. This includes the version of Kang featured in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
This version of Kang lives in the Quantum Realm. As such, Janet learns to befriend this character and they work together to build a vehicle in an effort to escape the Quantum Realm. Though Kang’s real identity soon becomes clear and Janet decides to no longer help him.
Kang is upset by this and begins to ravage the Quantum Realm. As a result, she’s hunted by Kang in addition to freedom fighters like Jentorra and Quaz. It makes for quite the narrative when Hank, Scott, Hope, and Cassie are stuck in the universe with Janet.
At the end of the film, however, Cassie and Jentorra attack the center of King’s citadel. Cassie uses her powers during this mission to grow giant in size. At the same time, Hank uses an army of mutant ants to attack Kang. Eventually Scott ends up in a fight with Kang that lasts long enough for the rest of his family to escape back home. He finishes the match with Hope as they throw Kang into his own dimensional engine. This appears to kill Kang as a result – or at least this variant of the powerful villain.
It seems that there are still numerous different variants of Kang in the Multiverse. And now, with this variant gone, the ending of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania opens the gateway for others to step into the MCU. As such, we’ll have to see where this fifth phase takes viewers next.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was directed by Peyton Reed from a screenplay written by Jeff Loveness. The cast for the film includes Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer, Kathryn Newton, and Jonathan Majors.
