The internet was surprised to hear that Maya Rudolph would be replacing the classic M&M’s spokescandies as the spokesperson for the beloved candy brand. Now, however, it looks like the classic spokescandies are back.
Maya Rudolph was previously announced to be the new spokesperson following internet backlash for the company’s candy characters. Now, however, it appears to have all been a silly advertising campaign all along. Of course, some users already figured this out when ads jokingly claimed that Rudolph would rename the candy brand Ma & Ya’s.
The joke ultimately culminated with a bizarre Super Bowl ad, however, where Rudolph promoted a new brand of chocolate-covered clam candies. Now, however, things appear to be going back to normal. A new advertisement has been released which once again unites the beloved spokescandies and how Maya Rudolph will no longer be representing the brand.
As stated by the red M&M in the below advertisement:
“I can’t believe we were actually put on pause!”
Now, however, the classic spokescandies are back and Maya Rudolph is no longer performing as the spokesperson for M&M’s. We’ll have to see what kind of advertisements come next, then, now that the iconic M&M’s characters are back in business.
Many fans have drawn comparisons with this recent campaign to the 2020 publicity stunt to have Planters kill off Mr. Peanut. And, given by the excitement by fans in having their classic spokescandies back, it certainly seems like the campaign has paid off. After the brief backlash the company faced when replacing their female M&M’s characters’ heels with flat shoes, it is definitely a nice change of pace. Hopefully this positive momentum continues and we can have some more humorous ads coming our way in the near future.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any other potential M&M’s updates as we have them.
