The horror genre has numerous unsung franchises. One such film series has suffered a hiatus for the past 25 years. Now, after years in the making, the long-awaited prequel to the Subspecies horror film franchise is finally on the way.
The new film, titled Subspecies V: Bloodrise, was first announced in 2019. The film’s production was later postponed due to the pandemic which struck the following year. Fans were devastated by the delay.
After all, franchise director Ted Nicolaou and cast members Anders Hove and Denice Duff have long expressed their desires to shoot a prequel. In fact, the script for a Subspecies prequel seems to have existed since at least the early 2000s. As such, this is a film that’s been long overdue.
Luckily, as you can see below, the all-new trailer proves this horror film prequel will be worth the wait. The footage promises some incredible locations, cast members, and monstrous special effects. It’s an occasion that should have any long-time Full Moon fan overjoyed and any newcomer to the franchise enthralled. Here’s the trailer:
Now, after having watched the footage, it’s clear that this is a special occasion for horror fans. It’s very rare that a film franchise – especially one of this nature – receives a high-quality continuation with returning cast and crew members. Luckily the film is currently expected to be released sometime later this month or next.
Here’s the synopsis for the highly-anticipated epic:
“Stolen by crusaders on the night of his birth from his demon mother and vampire father, Radu grows up with no knowledge of his monstrous bloodline. Trained and exploited by a brotherhood of mystic monks to slay all enemies of the church, fate brings him back one night to his father’s castle, armed with the monster-slaying Sword of Laertes, to destroy the vampire Vladislas and reclaim a holy relic, the Bloodstone.
“The horrifying events that unfold turn Radu from a honorable man into a vampire with no master, setting him on a centuries-long quest for sustenance, for companionship, for the treacherous one who stole him from the sun, and for the Bloodstone he hopes will bring him peace.”
