Now that Disney CEO Bob Iger has returned, it’s clear that Disney has some exciting plans for the future. In fact, he’s just revealed during Disney’s Q1 earnings call that Frozen 3 is officially in the works alongside several other highly-anticipated sequels.
This news was shared via Deadline, where the other sequels were revealed to be Toy Story 5 and Zootopia 2. Obviously this should have fans of these animation projects extremely excited for what’s to come.
Here’s what Bob Iger shared during the announcement:
“Today I’m so pleased to announce that we have sequels in the works from our animation studios to some of our most popular franchises, Toy Story, Frozen and Zootopia,” Iger started. “We’ll have more to share about these productions soon, but this is a great example of how we’re leaning into our unrivaled brands and franchises.”
As such, with the film being newly-announced, it’ll likely be some time before plot details for Frozen 3 are revealed. But at least we know now that the film is currently in active development. Hopefully we’ll have other details regarding the sequel sooner rather than later, as promised by Iger.
The most recent film in the franchise, Frozen II, was released in 2019. The sequel is well-known for having used much more advanced animation technology than its predecessor and once again becoming a worldwide sensation. It’s likely that Disney greenlit Frozen 3 with expectations for the same following the box office disappointment with some of their other more recent animation ventures.
Frozen II ended with Anna becoming Queen of Arendelle while Elsa becomes the protector of the Enchanted Forest. The sequel will most likely follow the two characters as they continue to grow into their new roles.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional Frozen 3 news as we have it. For now, however, fans can rest assured that the highly-anticipated sequel is finally happening.
