Marvel Studios has been busy focusing on their work with Disney Plus. As such, their collaborations with other streaming platforms have been dwindling to say the least. Fans will recall that Marvel previously teamed up with Hulu to introduce four all-new animated shows. Sadly, only one such Marvel show still exists at this point.
The original slate of animated Marvel shows on Hulu included MODOK, Hit-Monkey, Tigra & Dazzler, and Howard the Duck. And, similar to Marvel’s original slate of live-action Netflix shows, they were intended to result in a special called The Offenders.
This plan never came to fruition, however, and now only one such series continues to exist. As noted via THR – Hulu has renewed the series Hit-Monkey for a second season. This makes the series the only one of the four Marvel shows to continue forward. However, there is a catch.
When the series was first produced it was created under the Marvel TV banner. This banner was dissolved when it was folded into Marvel Studios in late 2019. As a result, Hit-Monkey now belongs to 20th Television Animation, and so the Marvel name will no longer be used in the title. Of course, it won’t lose every reference to Marvel, as it’s been stated that “the Marvel logo will still be attached to the show in other ways.”
It’s certainly an interesting move. Fans of Hit-Monkey will have to wait and see what this means for the Marvel show going forward. For now, however, it looks like one piece of Marvel’s original Hulu slate will continue.
The second season of the series is set to take place in New York. The voice cast includes Olivia Munn, Jason Sudeikis, Ally Maki, and Fred Tatasciore. Leslie Jones will join the cast of the second season.
