Madonna once again has social media calling out her looks – this time from the Grammy Awards. Now Madonna has taken the time to call out her haters.
She was at the Grammy Awards to introduce Kim Petras and Sam Smith before the two performed their Grammy-winning song Unholy together. However, Madonna’s physical performance became a topic of discussion on social media, with many users criticizing her appearance.
This led Madonna to making the post you can see below in response to the Grammy Awards criticisms. The iconic celebrity wrote an entire statement to anyone that criticized her appearance. In doing so, she claimed that the haters focused on the wrong thing at the Grammy Awards: Kim Petras being the first trans woman to perform at the awards ceremony.
“Instead of focusing on what I said in my speech which was about giving thanks for the fearlessness of artists like Sam and Kim,” she wrote at one point, “Many people chose to only talk about Close-up photos of me Taken with a long lens camera By a press photographer that Would distort anyone’s face!!”
Her statement continues by blaming the criticisms on “ageism and misogyny”:
“Once again I am caught in the glare of ageism and misogyny That permeates the world we live in. A world that refuses to celebrate women past the age of 45 And feels the need to punish her If she continues to be strong willed, hard-working and adventurous.”
She continues to note that she’s faced criticisms since the beginning of her career. So, as noted in her decision to quote Beyoncé in her Instagram caption, “‘You won’t break my soul.'” Madonna confirms that she sees herself as a trailblazer and that other women will have an easier time because of it. As she notes in her conclusion:
“I look forward to many more years of subversive behavior -pushing boundaries-Standing up to the patriarchy -and Most of all enjoying my life.
Bow down bitches!”
