It’s always an exciting time when a new Stephen King adaptation hits theaters. Now, as fans can see in the below trailer, an adaptation of Stephen King’s short story The Boogeyman is on the way.
The fan-favorite short story was first published in the 1973 issue of Cavalier magazine. It was again published in the 1978 collection Night Shift with several other Stephen King short stories. And, while it was adapted for different mediums in the past, this marks the first feature film interpretation.
Obviously, given that the original story has so much history attached, it’ll be exciting to see how the film plays out on the big screen. Those interested can get their first glimpse in the new trailer which promises plenty of scares and brooding atmosphere.
Here’s the official trailer for The Boogeyman:
Here’s the plot synopsis provided for the film:
“Still reeling from the tragic death of their mother, a teenage girl and her little brother find themselves plagued by a sadistic presence in their house and struggle to get their grieving father to pay attention before it’s too late.”
It’s clear that 2023 is going to be another big year for horror. And, with 20th Century Studios’ confidence in the project, hopefully The Boogeyman will be one of many great ventures to the theater this year.
The Boogeyman is directed by Rob Savage from a screenplay penned by Scott Beck & Bryan Woods and Mark Heyman, based upon the short story by Stephen King. The project was produced by Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, and Dan Cohen, with Emily Morris, John H. Starke, Scott Beck, Bryan Woods, Adam Kolbrenner, Ryan Cunningham, and Robin Meisinger serving as executive producers.
