James Gunn caught a lot of backlash when his plans were announced to recast Henry Cavill’s role as Superman. Now another star close to James Gunn suggests he plans to “completely reboot” DC with younger actors.
This close star is none other than Dave Bautista. Fans will recognize Bautista for having portrayed Drax the Destroyer in Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. While speaking with Insider, however, he reveals that Gunn spoke with him about his plans for DC.
Apparently James Gunn plans to “[start] from scratch” including “younger and fresher” actors for the franchise:
“I have had conversations with James about that but I think the direction he’s leaning in, completely rebooting that whole universe, he’s starting from scratch and starting younger and fresher and I think you need to do that.”
Furthermore, Dave Bautista completely understands Gunn’s decision to reboot DC. He knows that the franchise will require a younger group of actors to carry it forward for the next fifteen years.
“I think for the DC Universe to be revived, you need to start from scratch, and I think you need to start with younger actors. You need to start to plan for the next 15 years…”
Of course, we’re supposed to have more official announcements regarding James Gunn’s plans for DC in the near future. But coming from a source as close to Gunn as Dave Bautista – it certainly makes sense. Especially with Gunn’s controversial decision to replace Henry Cavill’s role as Superman. Though we’ll have to wait for a complete announcement from James Gunn and fellow DC Studios co-head Peter Safran to know what’s happening for sure.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates regarding DC and the growing DCU as we have them. For now, however, we should expect some major changes to the beloved superhero brand coming our way.
