It’s been eight years since the Adult Swim series Aqua Teen Hunger Force was taken off the air. Now the series will return with a brand-new twelfth season.
As noted via Deadline, this great news comes just ahead of the HBO Max premiere for Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm. The aforementioned feature film is based on the hit property and acts as a stand-alone sequel to the 2007 film Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters.
Additionally, the show’s creators, Dave Willis and Matt Maiellaro, have released a statement regarding the announcement. The two will be reuniting for this new set episodes – of which there will be five – and had this to say:
“We are thrilled to be making more Aqua Teen Hunger Force episodes for a new generation of fans, building upon the most impressive collection of IP ever assembled. Success is optimal and leads to quality,” the two stated simultaneously.
And, in true Aqua Teen style, they added the following statement to promote the release of Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm on HBO Max:
“Congratulations!” they added. “You waited just long enough for Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm to be free on the service your parents pay for. I can’t wait for you to discover the project everyone has been talking about, and by everyone, I mean our personal twitter accounts. There is too much stuff to watch already. Breathe, and focus exclusively on Aqua Teen. Delete everything else.”
The Aqua Teen Hunger Force franchise has remained a staple for Adult Swim even after its cancellation. As such, fans are no doubt breathing a sigh of relief to see the characters brought back yet again. Hopefully we’ll have more details regarding the upcoming season soon. As for now, however, fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for updates as we have them.
