The Children of the Corn film franchise is coming back with yet another installment. It’s proven to be one horror film series that just won’t quit. This time, however, the next Children of the Corn installment will be a remake – and a release date has just been announced.
This news comes via Deadline. Fans have been wondering when this film would be released to the public. Now we know – and it won’t be a long wait. Fans will be able to experience the next installment in just a few months!
Here’s what was shared:
“Kurt Wimmer’s redo of Stephen King’s Children of the Corn has been picked up by RLJE Films and AMC network’s horror streaming service Shudder. The movie will hit theaters on March 3 in an 18 day theatrical window before hitting demand and digital on March 21.”
Here’s what’s said about the film’s plot, which is apparently quite different from its predecessors (and the original short story):
“Children of the Corn follows a 12 year old girl in Nebraska who is possessed by a spirit in a dying cornfield. She recruits the other children in her small town to go on a bloody rampage and kill all the adults and anyone else who opposes her. A bright high schooler who won’t go along with the plan is the town’s only hope of survival.”
There’s certainly plenty of potential to revive this franchise that’s essentially become a horror sandbox over the decades. Many filmmakers have presented their own unique twists and turns for the concept. Now we’ll see if this additional iteration will be able to add anything else worthwhile to the brand.
The new Children of the Corn remake was written and directed by Kurt Wimmer. The cast includes Elena Kampouris, Kate Moyer, Callan Mulvey, and Bruce Spence.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional horror news as we have it. In the meantime, it looks like fans will finally be able to experience the latest installment of the Children of the Corn franchise this year.
