Willem Dafoe is no stranger to the horror genre. And, interestingly enough, he once played Nosferatu actor Max Schreck for a fictionalized account of the iconic film’s production. This makes the following news that much more exciting: Willem Dafoe has entered talks for Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu remake.
Furthermore, if things work out, then Willem Dafoe will be joining a cast for Nosferatu that includes Lily Rose-Depp, Bill Skarsgård and Nicholas Hoult. Though, via Deadline, it’s worth noting that Dafoe’s potential role is unknown. So we’ll have to see what happens on that front.
As for the story of the film, here’s what the plot is said to include:
“In the new reimagining, Nosferatu is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman (Depp) in 19th century Germany and the ancient Transylvanian vampire (Skarsgard) who stalks her, bringing untold horror with him.”
It’s also worth noting that Willem Dafoe and Robert Eggers have already worked with one another in the past. Dafoe gave incredible performances in Eggers’ two previous films, The Lighthouse and The Northman, which is another exciting facet regarding this potential collaboration.
With recent appearances ranging from Spider-Man: No Way Home to The Kingdom: Exodus, Willem Dafoe is on a roll to say the least. Hopefully we’ll have additional news regarding his potential involvement soon. For now, stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any horror updates as we have them.
Robert Eggers is both writing and directing Nosferatu. The film has Jeff Robinov, John Graham, Eggers, Chris Columbus and Eleanor Columbus all attached to produce. A release date for the film has yet to be revealed. Nosferatu has been in the works for several years – with a release date once eyed for 2019 having once had a different cast attached. But with talent like Bill Skarsgård involved, it certainly seems like we’ll be getting something truly special.
