James Gunn and Peter Safran haven’t been met with the best reception since it was announced they’d be taking over DC Studios. One such reason is their decision to replace Henry Cavill as Superman with a younger actor. Now James Gunn has offered a blunt response to the backlash.
It isn’t a surprise that James Gunn has been dealing with negativity on social media. This includes both his Twitter and Instagram accounts. One fan on Instagram, however, received a response from James Gunn that only he could give to the backlash.
The social media user commented the following on James Gunn’s post to let him know that he “pissed off an entire franchise worth of fans.”
@edgedmoon1141: “F*** your cat dude. You pissed off an entire franchise worth of fans. Nobody gives a rats ass about your cat. #Cavilisclark”
Of course, James Gunn took the perfect opportunity to strike back. Here’s his response to the rude comment:
Gunn: “@edgedmoon1141 It’d be great if at the very least you knew how to spell an actor’s name if you were going to be so outraged.”
It’s worth noting that James Gunn’s initial post had nothing to do with DC. It was merely a photograph of the filmmaker’s cat standing on his desk.

With that said, James Gunn has stated in the past that he expected backlash. After all, this is simply how franchise fans tend to act on the internet these days. And in James Gunn’s case, he’s assisting in a new direction for some of the most iconic IPs of all-time. There’s bound to be negativity with that position.
However, it’s clear that James Gunn knows how to respond to these less-than-positive fans. And, hopefully once his version of the DCU gets underway, some of them might even learn to appreciate his work.
