Bella Ramsey stars as Ellie in the all-new HBO series The Last of Us. The series had quite the premiere on HBO Max, and as such, fans are hyped up for more. Now star Bella Ramsey has taken the time to reveal their gender identity.
She spoke with The New York Times on the matter, where she made some interesting comments. As it turns out, Ramsey not only considers herself to be gender fluid – but also non-binary.
Here’s what Bella Ramsey had to share on the matter of gender:
“I guess my gender has always been very fluid,” the actor said. “Someone would call me ‘she’ or ‘her’ and I wouldn’t think about it, but I knew that if someone called me ‘he’ it was a bit exciting.”
As for specific pronouns, Ramsey explained that they “couldn’t care less.” Though when it comes to signing forms, Ramsey tends to pick the non-binary option.
“I’m very much just a person,” she continued. “Being gendered isn’t something that I particularly like, but in terms of pronouns, I really couldn’t care less.”
Bella Ramsey has so far been rather positively-received as Ellie in the new series. This follows her work on Game of Thrones as Lyanna Mormont – another positively-received role. As such, it’s clear that Ramsey has quite the career ahead.
The Last of Us was developed by Craig Mazin who worked alongside Neil Druckmann to write and executive produce. Kantemir Balagov directed the pilot episode with Jasmila Žbanić and Ali Abbasi having directed additional episodes.
The cast of The Last of Us includes Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, Troy Baker, and Ashley Johnson, as well as Gabriel Luna, Merle Dandridge, Nico Parker, Murray Bartlett, Nick Offerman, Jeffrey Pierce and Anna Torv.
