8 Mile is a drama film with autobiographical elements released in 2002. It starred Eminem as the lead and told his rise to fame as a rapper. Now 50 Cent has confirmed a TV adaptation of 8 Mile is in the works.
50 Cent has gathered some surprising experience in the field of television. He assisted in the creation of the Starz television series Power. Now it looks like he and Eminem will be collaborating for an 8 Mile TV adaptation, as revealed in an interview with Big Boy TV.
It appears that this new adaptation will be a modernization of the 2002 film with much more detail thrown into the story. As such, fans of 8 Mile will certainly have a lot to look forward to.
Here’s what 50 Cent had to say regarding his goals for the project:
“I wanna be able to show and offer a lot more details, things that you would say in an interview or different things that you’ve already used, that you put out there, and stuff like that. You’ll see those kinds of things surface and the temperament of the characters.”
Hopefully we’ll have additional details regarding this project soon. After all, it’s been more than 20 years since 8 Mile was released. Now is a perfect time to see such a project expanded upon and redeveloped for the television medium.
Of course, given the early stages of the project, it’s unclear what specific direction it will take or who could star. As such, fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for further updates as we have them. In the meantime, this confirmation that 50 Cent and Eminem will be collaborating to produce the new series is certainly exciting.
The original 8 Mile film was written by Scott Silver and directed by Curtis Hanson. In addition to Eminem, the film starred Mekhi Phifer, Brittany Murphy, Michael Shannon, Anthony Mackie, and Kim Basinger.
