Actor Johnny Depp finally got his chance to share his story with the recent lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard. As a result, he’s now experiencing something of a comeback – including the new film La Favorite. Now, as you can see below, the first look at Johnny Depp in La Favorite has been revealed.
The upcoming French period film was originally titled Jeanne du Barry before being retitled La Favorite. It tells the story of the infamous French King Louis XV whom Johnny Depp will be playing. Now, via The Playlist, a number of official images from the film have surfaced.
Fans will notice that the images feature Johnny Depp’s Louis XV beside actor/co-writer/director Maïwenn’s character Jeanne du Barry. The two are both appropriately dressed for their parts in the period film. And, furthermore, the surrounding scenery is equally appropriate. Especially given that the film was shot on-location at Versailles and other Paris locations.

Hopefully we’ll have a trailer for La Favorite with additional looks at Johnny Depp and his role in the film soon. For now, however, it’s unknown when such footage could be released. At the very least, it’s nice getting to see an official look at the film for the time being.
It’s stated that La Favorite will first premiere in France before receiving a global release on the streaming service Netflix 15 months later. As such, most territories will have to wait until next year to see the film released. In any case, it’s a step forward for Johnny Depp who has been attempting to clear his name for the last several years.
In addition to Johnny Depp as Louis XV and co-writer/director Maïwenn as Madame du Barry, the film’s cast also includes Louis Garrel, Pierre Richard, Noémie Lvovsky, Benjamin Lavernhe, Melvil Poupaud, Pascal Greggory, and India Hair.
