It appears that Werewolf by Night really helped jumpstart an all-new career as a director for Michael Giacchino. It’s now been revealed that he’ll be directing a remake of the classic 1954 film Them! for Warner Bros.
Michael Giacchino was previously known for his work as a film composer. With Werewolf by Night, however, that brought him into a completely different territory. Nevertheless, he proved his horror chops, and now Them! seems like a perfect next step.
This news comes via Deadline, where they revealed that “Giacchino is meeting with writers in hopes of getting the production up quite soon.” As such, we should be hearing more about this project sooner rather than later.
Michael Giacchino shared the following statement regarding his remake of Them! that clearly shows his enthusiasm:
“There’s always a movie in your mind that never leaves your head,” Giacchino begins.
“For me, that’s Them! It wasn’t until much later in life until I learned what it was about – the nuclear age.”
He further explained what he believes the film to be about. And, as a result, he appears to tease his own vision for the remake.
“What I love about Them! is exactly what it’s called: Them! It’s about the other, the unknown which one refuses or can’t understand. The current version of Them! is about immigration, and to tell a story about the subject through a lens of this insane science fiction monster movie,” Giacchino concludes.
As mentioned above, Giacchino is also known for his work as a composer. And, much in the same way that he doubled as composer for Werewolf by Night, they also note that he’ll be doubling as composer for Them!. This should certainly have fans excited for the project to make some progress.
Additionally, Warner Bros Pictures President of Production and Development Jesse Ehrman had the following statement:
“Michael Giacchino is a unique talent. We’re excited to be working with him and have him at the studio,” he shared.
Deadline notes that Ehrman will be “overseeing the project on the Burbank, CA lot.” This is because he was, as they say, “blown away” by the production of Werewolf by Night. Hopefully, then, we’ll have some promising developments with this upcoming remake.
