An attempt to get a Gran Turismo film made has been in the works for several years now. Finally, however, fans will soon see an adaptation of the video game franchise on the big screen. Especially now that District 9 filmmaker Neill Blomkamp has become the film’s director.
It wasn’t long for Blomkamp to get production on the project underway. And, as a result, Sony has revealed the first sneak peek for the film. As you can see below, it follows what’s apparently a true story, involving a teenage video game player that wants to use their gaming skills to become a real-world racecar driver. It’s certainly an interesting premise as you can see in the footage below.
Here’s the sneak peek which reveals the exciting plot and characters of the upcoming film:
After years in development hell, it’s an exciting sight to see the project finally get off the ground. The film will be arriving to theaters this summer so we’ll probably have additional looks at the project before then. In the meantime, Sony also has video game adaptations in the works including the HBO series The Last of Us, Peacock’s Twisted Metal television series, and even a film adaptation of Ghost of Tsushima. Hopefully we’ll have additional details on all of these upcoming projects in the near future.
The upcoming film Gran Turismo was directed by Neill Blomkamp. The screenplay for the film was penned by Jason Hall and Zach Baylin. Gran Turismo was produced by Kazunori Yamauchi, Herman Hulst, Jason Hall, and Matthew Hirsch.
The cast for the film includes David Harbour, Orlando Bloom, Archie Madekwe, Darren Barnet, Geri Halliwell Horner, and Djimon Hounsou.
Fans will be able to see Gran Turismo in theaters on August 11, 2023. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the highly-anticipated video game adaptation as we have them.
