The Alien film franchise is being revived by 20th Century Studios in some very interesting ways. This includes a new Alien television series and a new movie. Additionally, we’ve learned that the new movie will begin shooting in early 2023.
As revealed by a listing from ProductionList.com, the new Alien movie will be shot under the working title Alien: Romulus. As for when the film starts shooting, it has a production date scheduled for February 6, 2023. It also lists the production as taking place in Budapest, Hungary.
Fede Alvarez, who previously directed the 2013 remake Evil Dead and the 2016 film Don’t Breathe, is attached to direct the new Alien film. Ridley Scott will be involved as a producer through his Scott Free banner.
As for the cast, so far it appears that Cailee Spaeny is attached to lead. With production bound to start in the next couple of months, however, there will likely be plenty of other cast announcements in the near future.
Additionally, there are no plot details available at this time. But it’s been stated that the new Alien movie is “an original standalone feature.” With that in mind, it’s more than likely that this film won’t be connected to the events of Prometheus, Alien: Covenant, or the original four films which starred Sigourney Weaver. It’ll be interesting to see, then, how this film manages to connect with the overall universe. Likewise, we’ll have to wait and see how Noah Hawley’s Alien series for FX ends up turning out.
Fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates regarding the Alien film franchise and the upcoming television series as we have them. Hopefully 20th Century Studios delivers the Alien content that both longtime fans of the property and newcomers can enjoy. They’ve already found some success with this year’s new Predator prequel titled Prey – so perhaps they’ll do the same for the Alien brand.
