The Netflix series Wednesday has brought Jenna Ortega even further into the spotlight. Since the show’s release, Ortega has deeply discussed her involvement with the series, including how she choreographed the iconic dance scene herself. Now Jenna Ortega has revealed a “cringe” line from the Wednesday script that she refused to say.
She revealed this particular line while speaking during a Netflix Q&A. The moment has now gone viral on TikTok. As it turns out, the line she refused to say referenced the black dress she ultimately wore to her school’s prom.
Here’s what she had to say:
“I remember there’s a line where I’m talking about a dress and initially she was supposed to say: ‘Oh my god I’m freaking out over a dress, I literally hate myself,'” she recalled.
Jenna Ortega further revealed that she managed to avoid other such examples of “cringe” dialogue during the production of Wednesday:
“And I was blown away,” she continued, “it was just a bunch of little things like that where I felt like we were able to avoid a lot of dialogue in an attempt to make her sound human.”
As a result, the video’s comments are full of gratitude from fans. They believe that Jenna Ortega “saved the show” by keeping Wednesday Addams from becoming a “pick me” character. These types of characters are usually defined as those which go out of their way to have quirky personality traits. It’s clear that Jenna Ortega has a lot of love for the character and what she does.
In addition to Jenna Ortega as the titular character, the cast of Wednesday includes Gwendoline Christie, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Fred Armisen, and Christina Ricci.
Fans can currently view the entire first season of Wednesday on Netflix. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates on the series as we have them.
