HBO provides fans with a wide range of entertainment. Unfortunately, that also means plenty of cancellations, and now another fan-favorite HBO series has been cancelled by the network.
A number of shows and films have been cancelled by HBO and Warner Bros in recent months. This is due to the recent merger of Warner Bros and Discovery. As such, we’ll clearly be having a much different path ahead for the newly-formed Warner Bros Discovery.
Fans of Bob Costas will be disappointed to know that Back On the Record with Bob Costas has been cancelled after only two seasons. The fan-favorite program included four new episodes a year, where Costas hosted in-depth interviews and conversations with sports, entertainment, and pop culture figures.
Many HBO viewers are familiar with Bob Costas. Over the years, he’s had two other shows on the network. This includes On The Record with Bob Costas which ran from 2001 to 2004, and Costas Now, which ran from 2005 to 2009. This means Back On the Record with Bob Costas now has the shortest run of the three.
As shared via Deadline, a HBO spokesperson delivered the following statement:
“Bob Costas and his team have delivered insightful and quality sports programming with ‘Back on the Record,’ and we are proud of its multiple Sports Emmy nominations,” they began. “Bob is an important part of HBO Sports’ history and Back on the Record was an excellent chapter in that story.”
Additionally, Bob Costas shared his own statement regarding the series being cancelled by HBO:
“I have always been proud of my association with HBO, and the type of programming we have been able to do over the years,” Costas said. “I am grateful for the invaluable contributions of my many talented HBO colleagues past and present, and to Ross Greenburg, Rick Bernstein, and most recently, Nina Rosenstein for their support and for the opportunity to be part of a network that has long been the gold standard.”
For now, it looks like the way forward with HBO will exclude Bob Costas.
