DC is currently being restructured by new co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran. As such, fans are eager to know what’s happening with recent projects like the newly-released film Black Adam. Now Dwayne Johnson has offered an update on the future of Black Adam going forward.
He revealed as much in a new Twitter post. As you can see below, he began by letting fans know he wanted to give “a long-awaited Black Adam update regarding the character’s future in the new DC Universe.”
Dwayne Johnson continued by teasing his eventual return, though it won’t be part of “their first chapter of storytelling” in the new DCU:
“James Gunn and I connected, and Black Adam will not be in their first chapter of storytelling. However, DC and Seven Bucks have agreed to continue exploring the most valuable ways Black Adam can be utilized in future DC multiverse chapters.”
He further explained that he and James Gunn both want one another to succeed:
“James and I have known each other for years and have always rooted for each other to succeed. It’s no different now, and I will always root for DC (and Marvel) to win and WIN BIG.”
Additionally, he adds that fans know they can trust his word.
“You guys know me, and I have very thick skin – and you can always count on me to be direct with my words.”
Additionally, he noted how proud he is of the Black Adam film that was just released. As a result, he thanked the fans of the DCU for their appreciation.
“After 15 years of relentless hard work to finally make Black Adam, I’m very proud of the film we delivered for fans worldwide. I will always look back on the fan reaction to Black Adam with tremendous gratitude, humility and love.
“We did great.
“To my very passionate and vocal Black Adam/Super Hero genre fans – I love you, THANK YOU, and I will ALWAYS LISTEN TO YOU and do my best to deliver and entertain you.”

This certainly helps add some context to what’s going on behind-the-scenes. Although we don’t know where Dwayne Johnson’s new DC character might show up, it looks like an eventual appearance is absolutely in the cards. For now, however, it looks as though James Gunn and Peter Safran have different ideas for their first slew of DCU projects. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens on that front.
