Wednesday has quickly become one of the biggest shows to hit Netflix in 2022. Now, excitingly enough for fans of the series, renewal talks for Wednesday Season 2 appear to be underway.
This news comes via Deadline, where they noted that Wednesday has “crossed the 1B hours viewed mark – only the third show to do that – in less than a month.” Furthermore, they noted that the series “overtook Dahmer to become the second most-watched U.S. show behind season four of Stranger Things.”
As such, a renewal for Wednesday makes perfect sense. They do note, however, that MGM’s new parent company – Amazon – may also be involved with discussions. Though things are still expected to go smoothly. Here’s what was stated on that front:
“A renewal is thought to be inevitable, although sources expect that will come in the new year rather than before the end of the year. Producers are starting to talk to writers about joining the second season’s writers’ room and mulling season two locations, and even though MGM has been restructured into Amazon Studios, under Jen Salke, no one expects that to derail future seasons. While there are things the two new partners will have to work out, insiders expect renewal talks to go pretty smoothly.”
It’s certainly nice to know that Amazon being involved won’t make matters difficult. It’s also nice to hear that a writers’ room is already being assembled. Hopefully we’ll have some positive updates regarding Wednesday and its potential second season in the near future. For now, however, fans can rest easy knowing that discussions for Wednesday Season 2 are already underway.
In addition to Jenna Ortega as the titular character, the cast of Wednesday includes Gwendoline Christie, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Fred Armisen, and Christina Ricci.
Fans can currently view the entire first season of Wednesday on Netflix. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates on the series as we have them.
