The world was shocked to hear that beloved actor Henry Cavill would no longer be playing Superman. Now a Hollywood insider has revealed the alleged reason why Henry Cavill was removed from his Superman role.
As shared via THR, an insider goes so far as to call Henry Cavill “a pawn.” But whose pawn, exactly? Well, the allegation there is quite interesting.
Specifically, they called Henry Cavill “a pawn in Dwayne’s failed attempt to control a piece of DC,” referring to Dwayne Johnson. Interestingly, Dwayne Johnson did star in the recently-released film Black Adam. And, of course, the film actually ended with a post-credits scene featuring Henry Cavill. Fans thought this meant that he was guaranteed to return in new DCU projects – but that obviously wasn’t the case.
Now THR, via the Hollywood insider, have alleged what went on behind-the-scenes with Henry Cavill as Superman:
“Cavill, sources say, did not have a deal in place to return as Superman, only a verbal agreement that the studio would develop future projects. He was paid $250,000 each for his cameos.”
Now that James Gunn and Peter Safran are rebuilding the DCU with a clean slate, however, any future projects with Cavill appear to have been cancelled. Additionally, James Gunn has since explained that everything in Black Adam happened before he had control of the situation. This certainly adds to the suggestion that Dwayne Johnson was the one who wanted Henry Cavill onboard.
At this point, however, Henry Cavill is done with the role. Likewise, he’s already walked away from his role as Geralt on The Witcher. Now fans will instead have Henry Cavill leading the newly-announced Warhammer 40,000 franchise that’s being developed for Amazon. The new franchise will consist of both film and television projects. So that’s some good news amidst all of this chaos.
