Now that the first season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has concluded, it’s time to begin work on the second season. As such, it’s now been revealed that The Rings of Power Season 2 will have an all-female directing team.
As shared via Deadline, the new season will feature returning director Charlotte Brändström in addition to newcomers Sanaa Hamri and Louise Hooper. They also note that the second season will consist of eight episodes, the same number as its predecessor.
This is an interesting change as Charlotte Brändström was the only female director on the first season of The Rings of Power. She’ll be directing four episodes of the season second while also serving as co-executive producer. As for Hamri and Hooper, they will each be directing two episodes.
The new season will pick up where the prior season left off, during the Second Age of Middle-earth. This time period is set thousands of years before the Lord of the Rings narrative that most franchise fans are familiar with from the films and novels. As such, it’ll be interesting to see where the narrative continues to develop.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 is produced by showrunners and executive producers Payne and McKay. Lindsey Weber, Callum Greene, Justin Doble, Jason Cahill, and Gennifer Hutchison also executive produce, along with co-executive producer Brändström, producers Kate Hazell and Helen Shang, and co-producers Andrew Lee, Matthew Penry-Davey, and Clare Buxton.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is currently available to stream via Amazon Prime Video.
