Warner Bros has been going through quite the transformation. Now that they’ve merged with Discovery, they’ve been rebranding themselves from top to bottom. This includes their ownership of the DC brand which has resulted in a number of changes for DC Studios. For example, their new slate includes several projects being outright cancelled – such as Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 3 which is now considered to be dead.
As noted via THR, DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran have been busy with reworking the DC slate. As they’ve put it, multiple sources have informed them that “Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 3 is not moving forward and is considered dead in its current incarnation.”
This is certainly a surprising move on their part. While Wonder Woman 1984 was not as well-received as its predecessor, the first Wonder Woman was still a massive success for Warner Bros. It’s quite shocking to see that they’d drop her third solo film altogether.
Here’s what was stated to have happened:
“Sources say that Jenkins recently submitted her treatment, co-written with Geoff Johns, and that Gunn and Safran, as well as Warner Bros. Pictures co-chairs and co-CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy, broke the news to the filmmaker, telling her the project — as it stood — did not fit in with the new (but still unfolding) plans.”
It seems likely that Gal Gadot will still factor into the DCU at some point down the line. But for now, it doesn’t look like it’ll be with a proper Wonder Woman 3 film – at least from Patty Jenkins. We’ll just have to see how the new DC slate continues to unfold.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates as we have them. It seems like there will be plenty of changes and new announcements to report in the near future. Hopefully all for the better as James Gunn and Peter Safran map out the future of the DCU.
