HBO Max has been in the pop culture zeitgeist since 2020 and has undergone a significant amount of change over the years. From direct to streaming releases to blockbusters to several of their programs vanishing into the ether, HBO Max is always in the news. Now, more information has come out involving the newly formed Warner Bros. Discovery and its plans for the streaming service.
CNBC reports that executives at Warner Bros. Discovery have finally decided on the new name for their excellent streaming service. Are you sitting down? Well, folks, you can throw out any HBO Max branded items and replace them with HBO Max’s new label, Max. Currently, many senior executives are still discussing the name change and may change it if the branding won’t stick.
The company’s legal team is also vetting Max and several other names. However, internally, we’re getting reports from the company that the streaming service is referred to as Beam. These name changes coincide with a revamped user interface with all of Warner Bros. Discovery’s giving their brands individual tiles. That notion sounds oddly familiar to what Walt Disney’s Disney Plus streaming service has been rocking for some time.
To give you a visual aid, picture HBO, Discovery, Warner Bros., and DC Comics having their hub for users to search through quickly. These efforts are reported to be put into action because of the confusion between HBO and HBO Max’s streaming service. The executives within the company are hoping that changes made with HBO Max will allow them to reach their profitable and gaining goal of $1 billion in earnings in streaming by 2025.
The Warner Bros. Discovery merger occurred earlier this year, and new CEO David Zaslav has been finding ways to turn a profit after a $3 billion loss for the company in 2021. The loss was due to the studio spending $7 billion on projects alone. We’ll have to see if anything will come from HBO Max’s new branding later this year.
