Fans are eager to see how the Marvel Cinematic Universe is set to introduce their own version of Blade. After all, the films which once starred Wesley Snipes are often considered some of the best pre-MCU Marvel movies. According to an alleged plot leak, however, this new Blade iteration will be quite different. In fact, it appears that Blade’s own daughter might be getting set up as the next Daywalker.
This alleged plot leak for Blade comes from the /tv/ board on 4Chan. As such, the following information should be taken with a grain of salt. But given the current course of the MCU – it actually wouldn’t be that surprising if Marvel Studios wanted to introduce a female successor to Blade. After all, Marvel is even preparing a new comic book series centered around his daughter, Brielle Brooks, titled Bloodline: Daughter of Blade. It would make perfect sense then if Marvel was aiming to tie it with the new movie and a potential series of sequels.
As for the alleged plot, however, it’s said to begin in 1920s New Orleans with “Blade’s pregnant mother.” She visits “Dr. Deacon Frost for treatment, only to discover that he is a vampire preying on outcasts like her.” This is soon followed by a time jump to 1970s New York. At this point, “vampire hunters Rachel Van Helsing and Hannibal King infiltrate a vampire gathering, but are caught and nearly killed before Blade rescues them.” It isn’t long before their employer, named Quincy Harker, along with his enforcer Taj Nital, “ask Blade for help retrieving a weapon that the vampires are after.” He naturally declines to help them. Until, of course, “he finds out the weapon is with Frost.”
This leads us to a series of flashbacks where Deacon Frost is revealed to have fed on Blade’s mother while leaving “her baby Eric to die in the streets.” However, “a prostitute found and raised him until his vampirism manifested and she abandoned him.” This leads to a young Eric who attempts “to save an elderly blind musician from a vampire attack only to learn he was a legendary vampire hunter, Jamal Afari, known as ‘Blade’ for his silver sword.” Afari then realizes Eric is “a vampire immune to sunlight,” prompting him to both adopt and train him. This allows Eric to eventually become “the new Blade.” The story continues as Eric falls in love with a woman named Saffron Caulder. She happens to be “the daughter of the singer at the club where Jamal performed, but Jamal forbid the relationship.”
We’re led with another time jump to the present day. This leads to a sequence where “Blade, Rachel and King raid an underground lab and discover that Frost’s secret weapon is a teenage girl who is a Daywalker like Blade.” Though there are “rival vampires who oppose Frost’s genetic experiments,” and after they attack, “Blade and his team manage to escape with the girl, Alex.” This leads to another set of flashbacks which “explain Jamal and Eric confronted Frost and seemingly killed him, but Jamal was bitten in the process, and he killed himself rather than turn.” And, furthermore, it’s revealed that “Frost had genetically altered himself to control all the vampires he creates, and kept several as slaves, including Blade’s mother, forcing Blade to mercy-kill her.”
The alleged plot leak claims that Alex then “tries to run from the hunters, but Blade catches up to her and they fight off vampire assassins. She recounts how Frost tortured her and Blade promises to protect her.” In order to do so, Blade takes her to the Harker estate. Unfortunately, “Harker double-crosses them and announces that he must kill Alex.” This is because Frost wants to use Alex’s DNA to turn his followers into Daywalkers much like her and Blade. As such, Harker believes that Alex is just too dangerous to live. “Blade objects, but is overpowered and captured by Nital.” At this moment, Harker takes the time to reveal that Alex is the daughter of Blade and Saffron. It turns out that Blade left Saffron before he learned she was pregnant.
After this reveal, “Rachel and King free Blade” and they work together to rescue Alex. Blade kills Nital and soon enough King “lures Frost and his followers to their location.” It turns out that “Frost turned him during the raid and King is now under Frost’s control,” which Rachel learns. Once Frost arrives, he “reveals that he killed Saffron and abducted Alex to extract her DNA, and tortures Blade about taking all the women Blade loves.” Frost then “kills Harker and prepares to transform his followers into Daywalkers when the rival vampires arrive and a threeway battle begins.”
During the battle, “King overcomes Frost’s control and sacrifices himself to destroy Frost’s followers while Blade fights the rival vampires and Rachel rescues Alex.” It’s stated that “Blade then fights Frost, but Frost defeats and nearly kills him until Alex stabs him with the sword, and Blade exposes them to sunlight, destroying Frost.” This allows Rachel to take over Harker’s operation with Blade and Alex both leaving together. Blade then tells her that “he is her father” and decides to make her his apprentice, specifically “telling her one day the sword will be hers.” Finally, the “movie ends with a flashforward to present day with older Blade and adult Alex still hunting vampires.”
As mentioned above, this alleged plot leak for Blade should be taken with a grain of salt. Especially given the current stage of development the film is in – if true, this story could still change drastically before production begins. Nevertheless, it could illustrate the possible direction that Marvel would want to take a modern-day Blade franchise. It would certainly fit their current MO to create a female successor to Blade. With that in mind, we’ll just have to see what happens in the near future.
Yann Demange is attached to direct Blade, the newest screenplay for which is being penned by Michael Starrbury.
Mahershala Ali will star as the titular character.
