The upcoming series Daredevil: Born Again is currently being prepped to begin production. Fans have been waiting for a proper Daredevil project ever since the character’s Netflix series was cancelled several years ago. And while he’s made a few recent appearances, namely in the projects Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, this is expected to be a return to form for the vigilante. Additionally, he’ll be joined by his previous co-star Vincent D’Onofrio who will once again be playing the villainous Kingpin. Now it’s been revealed that Michael Gandolfini has joined the Daredevil: Born Again cast as well.
As revealed via Deadline, he “is set for a major role opposite Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio.” At this time, however, it hasn’t been explained what his major role will be. Though they note “it’s possible he plays an ambitious guy from Staten Island referred to as Liam.” Hopefully we’ll have more details in the near future now that casting is moving along.
In fact, it’s been recently rumored that Jenna Ortega will be cast in Daredevil: Born Again as well. Although this information has yet to be confirmed, it would certainly be an exciting draw to the upcoming series. It’s been stated within the rumor that she would play the street-level hero White Tiger. Now that Michael Gandolfini is said to have joined the Daredevil: Born Again cast – perhaps we’ll have more updates regarding the potential involvement of Jenna Ortega as well.
In the meantime, however, this is still exciting news. Fans will recognize Michael Gandolfini for his work in The Many Saints of Newark as a younger version of Tony Soprano. He’s also appeared in the limited series The Offer and the upcoming Apple TV Plus series Extrapolations. With that in mind, it’ll be interesting to see him interact within the MCU, and more specifically, the criminal-heavy world of Daredevil: Born Again.
The highly-anticipated Disney Plus series Daredevil: Born Again is scheduled to be released in early 2024. The first season of Daredevil: Born Again is currently set to contain eighteen episodes.
