Last last year in 2021, filming took place for the film Cocaine Bear – a rather unique true story that’s been adapted as a murderous rampage for the big screen. And, although the murderous rampage itself might’ve been tagged onto the film, the trailer for Cocaine Bear certainly proves that it was the right direction to take. As you can see below, it looks like a bonkers film with a bear that simply takes a little too much coke.
The true story began when convicted drug smuggler named Andrew Thornton, in September 1985, happened to offload a duffel bag of cocaine in northern Georgia. The cocaine was soon after ingested by a 175-pound black bear, and three months later, it was discovered to have overdosed near 40 plastic containers of the drug. It turns out that Thornton himself died while he attempted to abandon an overloaded plane and his parachute malfunctioned. Now the real-life bear happens to be on display at the Kentucky for Kentucky Fun Mall in Lexington, Kentucky.
Of course, the film takes the basis of this story and uses it with an interesting horror perspective as shown in the trailer.
Here’s the official trailer for the upcoming film Cocaine Bear:
Elizabeth Banks directed the film which stems from Universal Pictures. Jimmy Warden penned the screenplay for the film based on the surprising true story. Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Aditya Sood produced the film for Lord Miller. Meanwhile Elizabeth Banks, Brian Duffield and Max Handelman produced the film for Brownstone Productions. Robin Fisichella and Nikki Baida are attached to the film as executive producers.

It also fears a posthumous appearance for actor Ray Liotta who died earlier this year at age 67.
